Back Heathrow: West London will be the "engine" of UK Growth

Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye today confirmed Heathrow will submit its third runway proposal to the Government by the summer.

Speaking at the signing of the UK Steel Charter in Scunthorpe, Mr Woldbye declared a third runway was needed for the country’s future economic success and committed Heathrow to use British-made steel throughout the airport’s redevelopment.

Speaking at the event at the British Steel headquarters in Scunthorpe, Back Heathrow’s Executive Director Parmjit Dhanda said, “Heathrow’s expansion will grow the UK economy by 0.43%. Together with a third runway and the many international businesses that base themselves in Heathrow’s surrounding area, West London will become the engine for the UK’s growth. This is something for West Londoners to be proud of; tens of thousands of local people that work at the airport are helping to move our country forward.”

Mr Dhanda continued, “A new runway will help build a more prosperous and confident Britain for the future. It’s great to know that it will be forged with British Steel.”

Heathrow’s expansion is expected to generate over 100,000 new jobs across the country, including in industries such as steelmaking and manufacturing, along with 10,000 new apprenticeships.

Back Heathrow represents over 100,000 residents, who back the expansion of Heathrow Airport.
