Chiswick residents marked the Chancellor’s announcement of a third runway at Heathrow with a rally at the Chiswick Town Hall just two hours after Rachel Reeves’s landmark speech.
In attendance were local councillors, representatives of West London businesses and over 70 local Back Heathrow supporters.
Local resident Shafick Emmambokus, who joined the event said,
“I have been a Back Heathrow supporter for many years and was delighted to hear that the government is supporting the third runway. People from West London do rely on the airport for jobs and young people will benefit from new apprenticeships. So I’m pleased the Chancellor has made this important decision for our country.”
Parmjit Dhanda, Executive Director of Back Heathrow said, “After years of dither and delay, it was great to see a Chancellor stand up and make a clear decision on Heathrow’s third runway. It’s time to move on, create thousands of jobs and boost the local and national economy.”
He continued, “This announcement demonstrates Britain is open for business.”
Back Heathrow has been campaigning for the expansion of Heathrow airport for the past decade.
