MP for Spelthorne urges progress on Heathrow expansion

Back Heathrow supporters from Spelthorne had the pleasure of being joined by their MP, former Chancellor, the Right Honourable Kwasi Kwarteng MP at the local council chambers in Staines on 30th June, where he reiterated the importance of a new runway at Heathrow.

Mr Kwarteng said: “In this country, we’re great at organising State Occasions, but we need to be better at building infrastructure. To get out of the cost-of-living crisis, we need to grow the economy - and expansion at Heathrow will help facilitate that.”

Mr Kwarteng gave a detailed summary of the history behind Heathrow’s third runway plans and took time to answer questions from his constituents – who were a knowledgeable and politically diverse audience, many with working experience from across the aviation industry.

Back Heathrow represents over 100,000 residents from the local communities surrounding Heathrow Airport.

Parmjit Dhanda, Executive Director of Back Heathrow said: “Kwasi is right to say that Heathrow’s expansion could give the UK economy a massive trading boost. The plans have been agreed by Parliament and the Supreme Court. The project is legally obliged to deliver noise reduction, better air quality and the UK’s net zero carbon reductions targets too.”
