The Heathrow Academy is a hub for local apprenticeships at Heathrow airport, according to community campaign group Back Heathrow. The Academy showcased its role during a recent visit from Parmjit Dhanda (Executive Director of Back Heathrow) in the run-up to National Apprenticeships Week (beginning 10^th of February).  

Parmjit Dhanda, Executive Director of Back Heathrow said, "With Heathrow expansion on the cards we will see thousands more opportunities for apprenticeships for local people. I hope many more people visit the Heathrow Academy and see the excellent work which is done there to link employers and future apprentices. For young people the Academy is a golden opportunity, and I hope many more will take the opportunity to use it.” 

Mr Dhanda met apprentices and senior staff including Head of Education Employment and Skills, Poorvi Patel and Senior Relationship Manager, Kamil Staszczak on the visit and interviewed local apprentices about how the Academy had kickstarted their careers.  

Poorvi Patel, Head of Education Employment and Skills said “It was great to see Parmjit and his team at the Heathrow Employment and Skills Academy, who are helping us to reach out to thousands of local people to raise awareness of the jobs and careers we have available at the airport. In 2024, we brokered 772 job offers including apprenticeships in a shared scheme with our construction and infrastructure partners. We have helped over 700 young people in 2024 alone into employment and we look forward to working with Back Heathrow to further raise the profile of apprenticeships during National Apprenticeships Week.”
